Specialities of the region
Like every region, Bonn and the surrounding area are also known for typical regional dishes. In addition to the not quite low-calorie Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cake), you should definitely try a Rhenish Sauerbraten ("sour roast") on your trip to Bonn. If you're feeling a little peckish, we recommend the "Halve Hahn", which you'll find on almost every menu in the Rhineland. This is not chicken, by the way, but a "Röggelchen" (rye roll) with butter, Gouda and mustard. And for the adventurous: "Himmel un Ääd", a wild mix of mashed potatoes and apple sauce, often served in combination with fried black pudding and roasted onions. Mhhh...

For all mall fans who don't want to leave the city centre, we recommend the Maximiliancenter right next to Bonn's main railway station. After a temporary closure due to flood damage, it has been shining again in new splendour since summer 2022.
